As per PCN 24/GEN:

• Training: 56 hours of approved training prior to examination.
• Work Experience: Minimum 2 months of supervised experience, which can be completed before the exam or within 12 months after passing.

Certification: Candidates who successfully complete training, pass the exam, and achieve the supervised work experience within 12 months will be awarded PCN Level 1 certification.

Important Note: A valid near vision and colour perception eye test is mandatory before examination.

Examinations for Ultrasonic Testing Level 1 are conducted under PCN personal certification scheme.

The Level 1 examination consists of:

• General Theory Paper
  • Basics of sound waves and UT principles
  • Equipment controls and couplants
  • Calibration procedures
  • Detection of discontinuities
  • Limitations of the method
  • Safety aspects in UT
• Specific Paper
  • Application of UT to welds, castings, forgings, etc.
  • Codes, specifications, and procedures relevant to UT
  • Control checks and documentation
• Practical Examination
  • Perform UT inspection under supervision
  • Calibrate equipment with reference blocks
  • Record and report test results correctly
  • Follow written instructions from Level 2/3
  • Not responsible for selecting techniques or interpreting final acceptance
