As per PCN 24/GEN:

• Training: 80 hours of approved training (in addition to Level 1).
• Work Experience: Minimum 9 months of supervised experience, which may be completed before the exam or within 24 months after passing.

Certification: Upon successful training, passing of exams, and completion of supervised work experience within 12 months, candidates are awarded PCN Level 2 certification.

Important Note: Candidates must hold a valid near vision and colour perception eye test before sitting the examination.

The Level 2 examination consists of:

General Theory Paper

Advanced knowledge of Eddy Current Testing, including:

In-depth principles of electromagnetic induction

Coil configurations and probe design

Phase and amplitude analysis

Signal processing and display interpretation

Effects of test parameters and material properties

Advanced calibration techniques

ET equipment operation and performance checks

Relevant standards, codes, and safety procedures

Specific Theory Paper

Includes questions on:

Selection of suitable ET techniques for specific applications

Writing and verifying test instructions

Defect characterisation and signal analysis

Product-specific testing (surface, welds, tubing, fasteners, etc.)

Code and specification requirements for ET

Evaluation of test results and acceptance criteria

Practical Examination

Candidates must:

Set up and calibrate ET equipment for different applications

Select suitable probes, frequencies, and test parameters

Conduct tests on specified samples or components

Record, analyse, and interpret signals to identify defects

Prepare clear and accurate reports

Demonstrate the ability to instruct and supervise Level 1 personnel
